Precious Steps Child Care & Development Center was founded in 1998 with the determination to care for all children, including children with special needs from 0 – 5 years in Plainfield and the surrounding areas.
Our program has national accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is rated 4 of 5 stars by Grow New Jersey Kids, a state-sponsored initiative dedicated to enhancing the quality of early care and education throughout New Jersey.
Precious Steps’ core belief and practice are that a child’s developmental needs come first.

We understand that all families have the differing needs, and we pride ourselves on our ability to meet our children and families at their levels of development within an intimate family-oriented environment, promoting and supporting lifelong learning.

Educational Philosophy

This is the cornerstone of our philosophy. It is our belief that growth and development don’t just happen by chance. It is achieved by planned and spontaneous interactive learning experiences, which stimulate the senses and foster development physically, cognitively, socially, emotionally, and creatively.
We nourish the growth in the critical first five years of life, and in partnership with our parents, provide a warm and nurturing setting reminiscent of a child’s natural environment, their home. Opportunities for solitary play, as well as group activities are provided, and our staff serve as positive role models offering care that is both supportive and responsive to each child’s individual needs.
The HighScope Curriculum
HighScope’s educational approach emphasizes “active participatory learning”. Active learning means students have direct, hands-on experiences with people objects, events, and ideas. Children’s interests and choices are at the heart of HighScope programs.
They construct their own knowledge through interactions with the world and the people around them. Children take the first step in the learning process by making choices and following through on their plans and decisions. The teachers and caregivers offer physical, emotional and intellectual support. In Active Learning settings, adults expand children’s thinking with diverse materials and nurturing interactions. Through scaffolding, adults help children gain knowledge, develop critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. Additional information can be found at Highscope.org
